Salaar is a 2023 Indian Telugu-language action drama film written and directed by Prashanth Neel and produced by Vijay Kiragandur. The film stars Prabhas in the titular role, along with an ensemble supporting cast that includes Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha, Tinnu Anand, Easwari Rao, Sriya Reddy and Ramachandra Raju. Its core plot is inspired from Neel’s 2014 debut Kannada film Ugramm and is the maiden part of a two-part film. The film follows Devaratha “Deva” who helps his childhood friend Vardharaja “Vardha” become the undisputed successor of Khansar after Vardha’s father Raja Mannar’s ministers and advisors plan a coup d’état to kill them by hiring armies to attack Vardha and Khansar.

The film was officially announced in December 2020 under the title Salaar, however, in July 2023, the official title was announced as Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire. Principal photography commenced in January 2021 in Telangana, later followed with a schedule in Hyderabad, which again was followed by another schedule near the latter location, which was again followed by a sporadic schedule in Italy and wrapped by early-December 2023. The film has music composed by Ravi Basrur, cinematography handled by Bhuvan Gowda and editing by Ujwal Kulkarni.

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire was released worldwide on 22 December 2023 in standard and IMAX formats to positive reviews from critics and critical acclaim from audiences praising Neel’s direction, artwork and set design, performances (especially Prabhas, Jagapathi Babu & Prithviraj Sukumaran), action sequences, cinematography and editing, but received criticism for lengthy runtime. Many critics hailed it as the comeback film for Prabhas after Baahubali. The sequel of the film titled Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryanga Parvam is in development.
